Prosecutors to Decide on Death Penalty for James Holmes April 1
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) — Prosecutors are expected to announce on or before April 1 whether or not they will seek the death penalty against Aurora theater shooting suspect James Holmes.
The judge in the case entered a not guilty plea on his behalf during a hearing yesterday in Centennial after Holmes' attorneys said they weren't ready — despite numerous delays since the July 20 attack inside a crowded theater claimed 12 lives and injured another 70 people.
The 25-year-old Holmes is charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder and attempted murder. Judge William Sylvester scheduled Holmes' trial to start on Aug. 5.
