While it's likely not a regular thought for most Colorado residents, it's pretty mind-blowing to find out just how many old, abandoned ghost towns there are across the state.
Many of these old ghost towns date back to the mid to late-1800s and were originally built to accommodate miners, their families, and local services such as hospitals, schools, and grocery stores.
There are a few ghost towns in which visitors are allowed to park and legally explore the old buildings, but the vast majority of Colorado's abandoned towns are located on private property and are dangerous to visit.
