Last Chance, Colorado, began as a homestead established in the early 20th Century by Charlie Harbert.
However, once the highway that currently runs through Last Chance was established, Harbert converted his homestead into a hub for travelers that eventually included a gas station, restaurants, and the aforementioned motel.

Last Chance would serve this purpose for travelers until the 1950s when the Interstate Highway system was established.
Today, Last Chance is reportedly home to a mere 13 permanent residents.
