Partially due to Colorado's rich history of mining, particularly during the state's early days in the mid-1800s, there are a number of old mines, buildings, and even entire towns that have been left abandoned for many years.

In case you're not familiar, the Santiago Mill is located high in the Rocky Mountains just south of I-70 near Keystone.

The mill was originally opened in 1899 as part of the mining district known as the Waldorf Basin of Clear Creek County, but has since been sitting abandoned for some time.

However, as you can see above, the main mill building built into the side of a hill is still standing, as is another, smaller building next to it.

In addition, an old foundation that appears to have once been part of a basement has held up over the years as well.

Bonny Lake State Park was once Colorado’s easternmost state park. However, after being abandoned in 2011, the old park carries a much more ominous feel than it did in its heyday.
