Last week the Colorado Bureau of Land Management starting taking reservations for summer camping spots along Ruby-Horsethief section of the Colorado River.

This weekend's weather should have everyone thinking about outdoor activities. The Ruby-Horsethief section is a prime spot to spend a weekend. This slower moving stretch of the Colorado is excellent for fishing, bird watching, hiking, and of course floating.

The BLM encourages potential visitors to secure your spot sooner-than-later. Last year summer over 21,000 visitors visited the park.

The cost of camping varies depending on the size of your group. The fees collected go back into maintaining the campsites and keeping them in perfect condition.

"You're actually paying for the next time you come, for it to be a little bit better camping experience. We're improving campsites, we're improving patrols, we have river rangers during that peak time," says Chris Joyner, Local BLM Public Affairs Specialist. "There's a two dog limit per trip, and the maximum group size is 25. Depending on how many people you have, it changes the price from $20 to $100, depending on your group size."
