Friday Is National Margarita Day, Where’s Grand Junction’s Best?
Time to break out the tequila and celebrate the drink!
National Margarita Day is February 22nd! Where does one find the best in Grand Junction? After polling a few locals and coworkers I came up with a list of where to find the best in town. But first, a little Margarita knowledge...
It's by far the most popular tequila-based drink in the US. Your basic margarita is tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. Quality tequila and fresh lime juice is the key to making them extra tasty. Margaritas can be served on the rocks, frozen, or straight up.
There are several stories associated with the invention of the beverage. The most commonly accepted is one about."Carlos “Danny” Herrera, the owner of Tijuana restaurant Rancho La Gloria. He claims he invented the drink back in 1938. A young woman that hit the joint regularly, Marjorie King, said she was 'allergic' to all spirits except tequila but didn’t like to drink it straight. Herrera went to work starting with the tequila shot, which is taken with salt and lime and created the margarita. The drinks fame got a boost when in the December 1953 issue of Esquire magazine where the margarita cocktail was the featured “Drink of the Month”.
Wherever its origin it's become one of the most popular adult beverages in the country. Here are a few places around town to celebrate the drink and National Margarita Day!
