Silverthorne's Red Gerard wins gold!

This weekend Colorado's 17-year-old snowboarding phenom shocked the world to win Team USA's first gold medal. He's the youngest snowboarder to win a medal since the sport became an Olympic event 20 years ago.

The win seemed unlikely after Gerard crashed on both of his first two runs. High winds made conditions difficult but on his third and final run, Gerard scored an 87.16 to pull off the amazing come from behind victory!

Gerard may have been the most shocked, "I was surprised to make it even to the finals of the Olympics and to get first is above me, I don't even know what's going on, to be honest... I cannot believe what has just happened - it is insane."

So Coloradoans, feel the pride of knowing one of your own scored this year's first gold medal at the Winter Olympics. Ok, so he's originally from Cleveland, but he now calls Colorado home! Go Team USA...and Go Team Colorado!
