Spring has just begun but the nice weather has been in place for a few weeks now and that means drivers and riders need to be more aware of the roads.

Sunday afternoon on G road an SUV hit a bicyclist sending that man to the hospital with severe injuries.

Then Tuesday night a Jeep and a motorcycle were involved in an accident at 6&50 and 25 road sending the rider to the hospital.

In less that 60 hours Grand Junction had two accidents involving SUV's and two-wheeled vehicles sending both riders to the hospital. The riding season has only just begun and it is clear that we might want to pay more attention to our roadways.

The weather is only going to get better and that means more bicycles and motorcycles will be on the roadways.

Drivers need to take that extra moment and make sure the road is clear of all traffic before pulling out. Most of these types of accidents take place because the driver didn't see the rider.

For riders that mean they need to assume that the driver hasn't seen them and take a little more caution.

The fact is whenever there are these types of accidents the rider is always the one who gets hurt. The driver is safe in their vehicle and unless something comes through the windshield they aren't going to get hurt.

Look no one wants to be in an accident or hurt anyone so as more riders hit our roadways let's take that extra moment and make sure the traffic is open and be safe out there.
