When you ask someone in Colorado what the best sweet corn is you're only going to get one answer, that is Olathe sweet corn. 2020 will be the 34th year that Olathe sweet corn has been harvested in the Western Slope and the community loves when the sweet corn becomes available at the grocery store or roadside stand because it normally ends up on the grill that night.

So many people don't realize the labor that goes into supplying so much sweet corn to the area, just check out this video of farmers putting in long days.

The sweet corn truly has changed the town in Olathe especially as the time approaches when the corn is almost ready. In 2019, the corn was a few weeks later than normal finally being harvested toward the end of July. Most of the time you can get your hands on the sweet corn more toward the beginning or middle of July. The timing mostly depends on when the soil gets warm enough.

Everyone gets excited about the sweet corn but people get just as excited about the Olathe Sweet Corn Festival that is set to take place on Saturday, August 1st, 2020. Once again this year's event will take place at the Montrose County Event Center.

Just like always you can expect lots of vendors, live music, and all the sweet corn contests and games you could imagine. This is one event that you will not want to miss so make sure you put the Olathe Sweet Corn Festival on your calendar now.
