The festival will move to the Montrose County Event Center.

I made my first visit to the new Montrose County Event Center last Saturday night for the Ned LeDoux concert. The facility was completed last April and is planning to host more events and concerts. "We're really excited to have the Sweet Corn Festival here," says Katie Yergensen, public information director for Montrose County. "It is a signature Montrose County event and this is by far and away the largest event space that we have within our county."

The main reason for moving the Olathe Sweet Corn Festival was cost savings. Also, having the event inside eliminates any potential weather issues. The festival says they can cut about 30% of the stage and equipment rental costs by moving to the Montrose County Event Center. More bathrooms, concession stands, and a real parking lot will make things nicer too.

The only downside is the impact on the local Olathe community. The annual festival brought thousands into the small town as was a huge local economic boost. It was the towns signature event. Progress has a downside too. No word yet on any of the acts performing at the 2019 edition of the festival.
