We Must Stop Selfies Now (OPINION)

Western civilization has survived a lot of fads over the years. The hula hoop, parachute pants and Lambada all seemed like good ideas at the time. Fortunately, they lost appeal and faded away. The selfie doesn't seem to be going away and I think it's time we do something about that before it's too late.

My opinion is probably affected by the fact that I am not one of the beautiful people. I don't let other people take a picture of me and I am certainly not going to do it myself. But, there are even studies that believe selfies can do real harm giving people a bad body image. I have no idea about that. My mirror does that for me.

This stupid trend has even made some human beings who actually have brains attempt some amazingly stupid things. Behold this NSFW video summary of a few.

My reason for hoping this activity will fade into the waste bin of history has nothing to do with science. To me, it's an indication of how selfish and vain many people in this world have become.

Don't make me beg. Please put down the selfie stick and try focusing on the needs of other people around you. Otherwise, I'm getting my parachute pants out of the closet and wearing them again.
