In 1954 the TOHO company released a low budget (some may say cheese) monster movie, “Godzilla”. Since then Godzilla has become a global superstar appearing in video games, comic books, a television series and 28 films (I don’t count the 1998 film). In 2004 Godzilla was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to coincide with TOHO’s release of “Godzilla-The Final Wars” and said they would not do another Godzilla movie for ten years. Well, the wait is almost over.

At this year’s Comic-Con Warner Brothers teased everyone with a trailer for the new Godzilla movie. Warner Brothers has partnered with Legendary Pictures, the company behind Christopher Nolan’s Batman Trilogy, and has snagged British director Gareth Edwards for the project. There hasn’t been any word on a cast yet, but there is a production time line and a release date of May 16th 2014 for the movie. In the world of Hollywood that means the movie is a go.

Warner Brothers has said this Godzilla reboot “will return the character to its epic roots with a gritty, realistic actioner” and will have nothing to do with the 1998 flop. I for one can’t wait.
