I'm sure most of you reading this has made the 2-mile hike to see the Delicate Arch up-close, right? Everyone living within 100 miles of Arches National Park has "been there, done that." If not, you've got to make the trip and the winter months are an ideal time.

I've only been here 5 months and I'm pleased to report I finally made the hike to the top on Sunday. When I saw the weather forecast, I knew it was my chance. I had made my first trip over to Arches back in Septemeber but the crowds were still large and it made getting around the park a challenge.

You may think about heading over within the next few months. Again, the crowds are much smaller in winter, plus a major road construction project is planned in Arches National Park. It will begin in early 2017 with the bulk of work being accomplished March through October. The Devils Garden Campground will be closed March 1 through October 31, 2017.

On this past sunny Sunday, the afternoon high of about 48, made for a comfortable outing. As long as the sun's shining, it's a perfect day to go. Pack plenty of water and make sure you're prepared for the hike to the top. The trail up the rock face it fairly steep and one needs to plan accordingly.

Enjoy these few highlights from my afternoon and I hope to see you there soon.
