Saturday Is National Sandwich Day! Where You Having Yours?
National Sandwich Day is November 3. Who are Grand Junction's favorites?
We've all heard who the sandwich is named after, right? Supposedly after this Earl of Sandwich character. But do you know the story behind the thing? Word has it Lord Sandwich was a serious gambler. He didn't want to leave the table, especially if he had a hot hand of cards, to take time out to eat. Being a "lord" and all when he got hungry, he would have his servants bring him sliced meat between two slices of bread. This idea caught on with his gambling buddies who soon began to order “the same as Sandwich,” and hence, the birth of the sandwich.
I don't know about all that. What we do know is that the sandwich, in its many variations, is America's #1 thing to have for lunch. I know, I have one nearly every day. It's quick and easy and if made right, pretty tasty. Some of this great countries favorites are... BLT's, Grilled Cheese, Philly Cheese Steak, French Dip's, PB&J's, Po’boy's, Subs, and more!
National Sandwich Day is Saturday, November 3rd. Here are Grand Junction's favorite places to get one.
#5-Great Harvest Bread- Let me start off by saying I've not been here. However, I'm not sure why. This locally owned chain sandwich shop does look nice. Fresh baked bread is the foundation of any great sandwich and this place takes pride in their bread-baking skills. Their menu looks tempting with sandwiches like the Spicy Apple Bacon Grilled Cheese, Grilled BBQ Chicken, Grilled River Ruben, and more. I've got to give this place a try.
#4-Roasted Espresso and Subs- Know for their coffee they crank out some killer sandwiches. Open for breakfast too, they're a downtown favorite. Their menu includes whole wheat sandwiches, specialty, and sub sandwiches plus wraps. You can even build your own. Be sure and wash it down with of their house brewed iced teas.
#3 McAlister’s Deli- Yes, they're a chain but certainly one of the countries best. In every town I've worked they've always been good and a favorite. Located at 460 West Park Drive, not only are their sandwiches great like the McAlister's Club, Spicy Southwest Chicken, and Sweet Chipotle Chicken, their iced tea is world famous.
#2 Cafe Sol- This favorite is open 7 days a week from 8 AM- 3:30 PM and for lunch, you better get there early as they're always packed. The patio is a great place to enjoy lunch too right in the heart of downtown Grand Junction. Open for breakfast with food, coffee, and smoothies it's their lunch menu what they're the most famous for. Great place!
#1 7th Street Deli- I've brought friends that come to visit here for lunch and they've all loved their sandwiches! You can get combos with soup, salads, or both. All of their sandwiches are great. Some favorites include Grilled Turkey-Bacon, Little Italy, Turkey-Ruben, Tavern Ham, Chicken salad, and more!
