A long awaited fueling station is finally becoming a reality in Palisade. Thousands of travelers and tourists travel the busy stretch of I-70. Now there's another reason to stop.

Most tourists exit I-70 at Palisade to grab a bottle of wine or a few of those world famous peaches. Now they can fuel up as well.

The Palisade city officials have given the go-ahead to Golden Gate Petroleum to build a 4,160-square foot store with 11 pumps. The fueling station and convenience store will sit on about four acres near I-70s eastbound on-ramp at 780 37 3/10 Road.

Most of the local Vineyard owners seem good with the planned gas station. It's another incentive for motorists to exit at Palisade. However, not all residents are thrilled with the idea. Some were concerned the sign may detract from the local scenery. Others were worried the convenience store may take from the town's "vibe." Another was worried the lights from the filling station would hurt nighttime stargazing. Despite the opposition, the Palisade city planning commissioners unanimously approved the project at their Monday evening meeting.
