Do you recall hearing about construction crews in Thornton uncovering bones from a triceratops? That was a month ago. Since then, more bones have been discovered.

According to Fox31, a team from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science is attempting to determine the extent of the new find. This discovery adds twelve more bones to the collection.

This profound discovery occurred during excavation for a new public safety facility. Groundbreaking on the new Fire and Police Substation at East 132nd Avenue and Quebec Street began on July 31.

What have they uncovered thus far? The bones found at the site last month included:

  • ribs
  • the lower part of the jaw
  • vertebrae
  • two brow bones
  • parts of the triceratops "shield" located behind its head
  • shoulder bones

What makes this particular find so newsworthy? According to the Denver Post, this find is one of only three triceratops skulls found along the Front Range.
