Heavy Traffic Will Be The Norm This Weekend
The roads should be clear of snow but watch out for heavy traffic this holiday weekend.
The Colorado Department of Transportation wanted us to let you know that they're predicting heavy traffic volumes, both east and westbound, on I-70 from Glenwood Canyon over the top to Idaho Springs.
Today's snowfall is excepted to bring an additional 3 to 6 inches to the more than a foot that fell earlier in the week. The snow is excepted to taper off this evening and CDOT plans to have the roads cleared. However, CDOT reminds travelers to be prepared and carry chains, just in case.
It's the combination of fresh snowfall and the 3-day-weekend that's excepted to drive the heavier traffic. So far, it's been dry up top and now that the ski resorts have enjoyed a couple nice snows, those that haven't had the opportunity to get much skiing in this season will be ready to hit it the slopes.
The best advice is to get an early start, allow yourself extra time, and exercise patience. Buckle up and have a safe and happy Martin Luther King Jr day.
