Grand Junction City Council Approve Powderhorn Pipeline
The pipeline will help with Powderhorn's snowmaking.
Water from Anderson Reservoir will be pumped up to Powderhorn now that the Grand Junction City Council has approved the idea. It's to supply Powderhorn with water for their snowmaking. Powderhorn says it will help them extend their seasons. Although there's been no shortage of snow this year when they encounter another dry season, much like the previous two, they will now have the capability to make more of the fake stuff.
It's like an insurance policy. "It starts to insulate us from low snowfall years," Ryan Schramm, general manager at Powderhorn, said. "It also allows us to keep more people employees for longer periods of time."
The original idea was transferring water from Anderson Reservoir to Somerville Reservoir via a ditch. A pipeline appears to be a better solution. The pipe will run directly from Anderson Reservoir up to Powderhorn.
Before the pipeline project can become reality it still needs approval from the US Forest Service. Powderhorn hopes to begin construction this summer.
