Grand Junction 9-1-1 Eligible For Upgrade
If you have ever had to call 9-1-1 you expect an immediate response.
And with a $2.4 million grant from the federal government, with 1 million matched by the state of Colorado, response times are about to get a whole lot better.
It seems as though the technology at the 9-1-1- call center in Grand Junction as well as many areas around the state old and outdated, the time has come for those areas to get upgrades to their technology.
The initial phase of the upgrade has to do with how calls get transferred to the agencies that should receive the call. Upgrading the IP network will allow for faster and smoother transfers. Additionally, the new tech will allow operators to receive pictures from cell phones, smart watches, etc. It is hoped with this new technology response times from agencies will be much quicker.
With the grant and matching state funds, they will be able to get these things upgraded, but as with all emergency call centers, funding is still going to be needed to keep up with changes in technology.
But we can feel a little safer once these upgrades are completed.
