Get Into The Holiday Spirit At The Avalon Theater
There's nothing like a holiday movie or concert to get your mind right.
The Avalon Theater holiday party has already started. Over the weekend the Face Vocal Band kicked off the holiday season. This Tuesday, December 4th Utah's own David Archuleta brings his "Winter in the Air" Tour to the Avalon. He's a special talent. At only 10 years old he won the children's division of the Utah Talent Competition. Of course, he's most famous for his runner-up finish on the 7th season of American Idol.
Up next is the Grand Junction Centennial Band and their Christmas concert Sunday, December 9th. The GJCB is an all-volunteer organization with over 60 western slope men and women dedicated to making a unique musical contribution to the community. The band's a Grand Junction institution and have been around for over 35 years.
The following night it's the Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker. Even I went to this last year. It's impressive. The Great Russian Nutcracker delivers Christmas spirit to kids of all ages. These guys are road warriors hitting over 100 cities across North America in just a couple months.
The first of two of the Avalon's December "Dinner and a Movie" is the holiday classic, "A Christmas Story." You know how this works, right? Just shop or dine downtown on Tuesday and bring your receipt to the box office and they'll hand you a pair of tickets to see the 7:30 PM screening! One free admission for every $5 spent downtown. Admission is $7 without a receipt. Receipts must be the same day as the movie.
On December 13th & 14th it's the vocal quintet, Five By Design along with the GJSO for two festive nights of holiday hits.
On Tuesday, December 18th it's the second "Dinner and a Movie" classic "It's A Wonderful Life." Again, just shop or dine on the day of the movie, show your receipt and you're in for free.
If you're looking for more of an "adult" type of event or perhaps a fun date night, don't miss this month's "Movie On The Rocks!" Enjoy the original unedited version, not what's currently on repeat on cable TV, of the classic National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Break out your bad holiday sweater or dress up like Cousin Eddie and join the fun of this 18 and over event. There we will be prizes for the ugliest sweater and best costume! Guests enjoy one drink and a little surprise drink, plus yummy themed hors-d'oeuvres, popcorn and of course this modern classic on the big screen!
Finally, it's a "Magical Cirque Christmas." Over the holiday break on December 30th experience the magic of Christmas with dazzling illusions and amazing cirque artists performing to your favorite holiday music. Don’t miss the husband and wife aerialist team Tyce and Mary Nielsen. Most famous as finalists on this season’s “America’s Got Talent!”
The 2018 holiday line-up is the Avalon's best, perhaps ever! Make time to take in some of the world class talent, classic movies, and unforgettable performances. For info and tickets to any of these great shows just click HERE.
