“Color Weekend” Is Almost Here
"Color Weekend" is the last weekend in September.
Saturday's high-temperature at Winefest was 93. It was about the same on Sunday in Lincon Park for Roice-Hurst Humane Society's 3rd annual Wuffstock. It hardly feels like it but Fall officially arrives this Saturday the 22ed. I've not been out yet but there have been reports the aspens are starting to turn in the higher elevations.
One of the regions Fall traditions is "Color Weekend" on the Grand Mesa. A big part of the celebration is held at Powderhorn. I hadn't lived here long when I made my first trip to check out the fall color. One of Powderhorn's longest running events is "Color Sunday." One of the highlights is hopping a ride on the Flat Top Flyer. You get the sensation that you're flying through the trees. With the sun shining through as you ride along, it's one of the coolest things you can experience on the western slope. Ski lift rides start at 10 AM. Tickets to the top are $12. There's live music from Stray Grass that afternoon at 2:30 PM.
