Climber Recovering After Fall at CO’s Little Dominguez Canyon
A climber is at Grand Junction's St. Mary's Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after a 30 to 40 foot fall at Western Colorado's Little Dominguez Canyon.
MCSO News just published a report regarding the incident which occurred yesterday (October 14) afternoon. At roughly 2:45 Wednesday the Delta County Communications Center notified the Grand Junction Regional Communications Center of a climber in need of assistance.
The climber, an adult male, fell between 30 and 40 feet while repelling down a 200-foot cliff in the vicinity of Rose Creek.
Fortunately, the climber had the assistance of two other individuals. They were able to convey their whereabouts to Centurylink's helicopter. According to MCSO News, the helicopter was able to transport Mesa County Sheriff's Office and Mesa County Search and Rescue crews to the bottom of the canyon. From there, rescue crews hiked about a mile through steep terrain to reach the injured climber.
Crews were transported out of the area by a second CareFlight helicopter. Start to finish, the rescue operation took about nine hours.
