An Eccentric Millionaire Hid $2 Million In The Mountains In New Mexico [Video]
84-year-old Forrest Fenn of Santa Fe, New Mexico is simultaneously an eccentric millionaire, a best-selling author, a crotchety old man, and the lunatic who just might make you rich.
Back in 2010, he buried a treasure chest with $2 million worth of gold, coins, and gemstones somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. He wrote his memoir, called The Thrill of the Chase, which gave clues to finding the treasure.Clearly, that was a marketing strategy that worked, because it became a best-seller.
He has also occasionally dropped other clues, like saying the treasure is 5,000 feet above sea level and, "the treasure chest is wet."
In spite of all of that, no one has found it in the five years. Around 30,000 people have searched, he says some of them have gotten within 200 feet, but it's still out there.
He just gave a new interview about it, which should drum up interest again, and that's what he wants.
What's his reasoning behind all of this? "Mostly my motive was to get kids off the couch and away from their texting machines and out in the mountains."
