The fire in Connected Lakes Park burned about nine acres.

Last Thursday's fire in the Connected Lakes State Park was reportedly started when a juvenile set off some illegal fireworks.  No charges have been filed as authorities continue their investigation.

The fire forced the evacuation of even homes as the fire burned behind a Riverview neighborhood. Fortunately, no homes or structures were damaged as residents jumped in armed with garden hoses to help contain the fire. One family handed out water to first responders helping extinguish the blaze.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene. Along with the Grand Junction Fire Department, Grand Junction Police, Mesa County Sheriff's Office, and Colorado Parks & Wildlife along with a Bureau of Land Management helicopter helped get the fire under control.

A reminder too, there's a Red Flag Warning in an effect for our region until 9 PM today.
