One of my favorite vacation ideas is to hit the open road and see where it takes me, and in Colorado, when you do that, you can find some pretty incredible sights along the way.

No, I'm not talking about our gorgeous mountain ranges or beautiful sunsets. I'm talking about our roadside attractions that are sure to make for some pretty interesting Instagrams. Below are ten Colorado roadside attractions that are not to be missed the next time you head out on a road trip.

1. Herkimer the Beetle: Located off of Highway 115 in Colorado Springs, this beetle was originally created in the '50s as an advertisement for the the town’s tropical bug museum, the May Museum of the Tropics. Now, he's an iconic part of Colorado culture.

2. The Punny Sign in Indian Hills: South of Morrison's Parmelee Gulch Road is the Indian Hills Community Center, where the sign there has become famous for its punny and meme-able phrases.

3. Petrified Wood Gas Station in Lamar, CO: The area now is used as a used car dealership, but Colorado.com says that the station "dates to 1932, when a lumber dealer built the walls and floor out of petrified wood, estimated to be more than 175 million years old."

4. Key Collection at the Baldpate Inn, Estes Park, CO: The iconic inn is modeled after a book called, "The Seven Keys of Baldpate", and therefore houses thousands of keys from all around the world. Many even use the key room for wedding photography.

5. The UFO Watchtower in Hooper, CO: Certainly one of Colorado's most famous roadside attractions, the UFO Watchtower can be visited on your way to the Great Sand Dunes and is run by an enthusiastic woman named Judy who can tell you everything you need to know about Colorado's alien encounters.

6. Bishop's Castle in Rye, CO: According to The Know from The Denver Post, the owner of this castle, Jim Bishop, broke ground 60 years ago and used "47,000 tons of concrete, rock, metal and wood to make a water tank in Rye into Bishop Castle".

7. Cano's Castle, Antonito, CO: Staying on the castle trend, Cano's Castle is yet another man-made haven for Colorado drivers. It's located a few miles north of the New Mexico border and is made from scrap metal and beer cans.

8. Colorado Gators Reptile Park, Mosca, CO: Are you a fan of Tiger King (yes, there were gators In Tiger King)? Have you always wanted to see a gator up close and personal? The Colorado Gators Reptile Park in Mosca is a must-see, then.

9. The World's Largest Fork, Creede, CO: Sitting at over 800 pounds, according to The Know, this fork is certainly a sight to behold. When else do you encounter a utensil this big?

10. Tiny Town and Railroad, Morrison, CO: Perfect for the kids, this Tiny Town will make them feel like normal-sized humans. The attraction is nearly a century old and features train rides for the kiddos.
