You may have heard the rumor, and I'm here to confirm the rumor is true - no admission charge this year at the Mesa County Fair.

I have to admit, I was skeptical when I first heard the news that the Mesa County Fair was offering free admission this year. But, then came the confirmation I was looking for. A press release stated:

"The Mesa County Fair Board is excited to announce, that thanks to our Daily Sponsors, admission into the 2018 Mesa County Fair is FREE!"

Just this week, the fair website was updated to reflect this change and confirm the rumor was true, although one section of the website was still indicating a $7 charge for admission.

What this means to you is a savings of $7 on each adult admission, $3 for children. You and your family can get in the gate without spending a penny.  There's not even any charge for parking.

However, of course, you will still have to pay for carnival rides and grandstand events like professional bull riding, demo derby, and the Gala of Royal Horses performance.

Fairgoers should be pretty excited about this news. Depending on the ages of the kids, a family can save $20- $30 on gate admission - which might make some people likely to spend more money on the inside for games, rides, and eats.

The Mesa County Fair is one of the best events of the summer in Grand Junction and I hope the free admission will make this great family event accessible to even more western Colorado residents.

The Mesa County Fair happens July 24-28 and it will be here before we know it.
