The Mesa County Fair happens this week and here are five cool things you probably didn't know were happening at the fair this year.

I think it's the best week of the summer. There are so many fun things at the fair including the animals, the carnival, the smell of cotton candy, the games, and so many people. It's just too bad it only last a few days.

If you don't normally attend the fair, one of these five things is likely to get you in your car and on your way to the Mesa County Fairgrounds.

The first cool thing happening at the fair is when you get to the gate and discover there is no admission charge. There's not even any charge to park. Free parking, free admission -we're off to a great start.

The fair is all about having a great time, and every day the Mesa County Fair will include various games including a watermelon eating contest, a frozen t-shirt contest, pizza eating, donut on a string, peach eating contest, water balloon toss, hula hoop contest, and an ice cream eating contest. Check the fair schedule and just show up if you want to participate.

If you love horses, you are gonna love the Gala of Royal Horses on Wednesday evening. It starts with the Centennial Band at 6:00 followed by  the gala at 7:00. The show will feature Lippizaner Stallions, the Spanish Andalusian, Friesian, and the majestic Arabian breeds, and a Quarter horse. General admission adult tickets for this event are $20.

Another cool thing is the Mesa County Cattlewoman BBQ. The only thing better than a summer BBQ is a summer BBQ done right. On Saturday, July 28, for $12 you can enjoy a delicious lunch of bbq beef cooked up just right by  The Ribber BBQ and Catering, along with fresh tomatoes and corn-on-the-cob, beans, and fresh rolls

Yet another cool thing is free live music every evening, and one of the coolest things is the Boys of Summer wrapping up the fair Saturday night. If you don't know, the Boys of Summer are an Eagles tribute band. They play and sing all of the great Eagles' and Don Henley tunes from the 70s and 80s, and they are absolutely fantastic.
