The View From Top
Most everyone around here has been to the "top" of The Colorado National Monument. You've made the drive along Rim Rock Drive, and its one of the most spectacular drives in the United States, but have you been to Blackridge?
As you made the drive through the park you may have noticed to the west, up on top of the mountain, a group of TV and radio antennas, that's where I was this afternoon.
These radio station transmitters require maintenance to keep the music coming your way 24/7-365. As our cluster Operations Manager, I'm at times asked to assist our engineer. This was my first trip to Blackridge.
I know not many have had the opportunity because we had to unlock the huge steel gate to access the top where the transmitters are located. The view was truly spectacular.
To be above the Monument and look down into it was amazing. From my vantage point, I could see Junction in the valley below, across to Mt. Garfield, and see all of The Grand Mesa in the distance. This job does have its perks.
