Date Night can get a bit pricey when you factor in the added expense of a babysitter. Are you paying your babysitter too much, not enough, or the right amount?

I think I'm the only person I know who doesn't have kids. I've never hired a babysitter in my life. I have hired an adult care provider, and remember paying them $20 an hour. How much for a babysitter?

Urbansitter.com just published their 8th annual child care study of close to 30,000 families across the country. Their report finds, "the average hourly babysitting rate is $16.75 for one child and $19.26 for two children."

How about Colorado? It seems we typically come in a bit pricey compared to the rest of the nation when it comes to many things. The report goes by city, not state. Based on those findings, here's a brief rundown.

  • Seattle - $17.05 for one child and $18.87 for two
  • Phoenix - $12.02 for one child and $13.72 for two
  • Boston - $16.90 for one child and $18.84 for two
  • Las Vegas - $11.63 for one child and $14.71 for two

Wow, babysitting is the only thing you're going to find cheap in Las Vegas. Go figure. Okay, so how about Denver?

  • Denver - $13.41 for one child and $15.92 for two

Looking at the nation as a whole, it appears Denver is less expensive than most cities. According to these results, the cost of babysitting two kids in Denver ($15.92) is less than the national average for the price of babysitting one child ($16.75).

Congratulations Colorado, we're below average! That's a good thing, unless of course, you're the babysitter trying to make a few bucks. Based on these results, my belief that babysitters make $5 an hour, regardless if it's one kid or five, seems to be a little off the mark.
