It's likely you did not realize Grand Junction had fireworks to bring in the new year.

Okay, so maybe the city of Grand Junction doesn't officially do fireworks at midnight on New Year's Eve, but that doesn't mean we don't welcome the new year with a bang.

I don't know about your neighbors, but some good folks in my neighborhood were lighting up the sky at midnight, and it didn't cost me a dime. Not only did I enjoy some colorful displays, but I also got to enjoy some major booms all for the same low price. And I'm not complaining. The fact is, I would much rather listen to fireworks at midnight rather than sleep.

Here's the deal. I was actually quite happy and relieved the midnight fireworks to celebrate the new year lasted less than 15 minutes. I can handle that. It seems fine if people want to celebrate the new year this year. What I can't handle is when it's 2:00am and the booms and pops are still happening. That's when it goes from being tolerable to extremely annoying. But, thankfully, this year's celebration was short-lived.

One fireworks display that is very cool is the  New Year's celebration in Ouray. The colorful display lights up the snow-covered mountains below for an absolutely spectacular sight. You can see the magnificent display in the video below from Ouray Wild Outdoors.

Here's wishing you and yours a happy and most prosperous new year.
