Imagine being able to see 100 miles in virtually every direction. That is what you call an incredible view.

The Devil's Head trail in Pike National Forest is one of the most popular hikes on Colorado's front range and it's easy to see why. The views from the top are obviously quite amazing and it's a great piece of history.

The current structure was built in 1951, but the Devil's Head Fire Lookout is over 100 years old, and the only operational fire lookout in Colorado.

The hike itself is designated as "moderate" and is 2.8 miles round trip. At the top is 143 steps that will take you to the tower and some of the most incredible views of Colorado.

It is a popular hike, so if you are hiking on the weekend, it's recommended you be at the trailhead by 8 am. If camping is your thing there is a campground near the trailhead parking area.

You need to know the Rampart Range Road in the best of conditions is rough and dusty and is closed December 1 - April 1. This is a hike you will want to do in the spring, summer, or early fall.

The Devil's Head Lookout is located about 80 minutes south of Denver, west of Castle Rock.
