Two Of Colorado’s Biggest Winter Festivals Are This Weekend
Snow and ice, it’s a big weekend for winter festivals!
Grab your coat, scarf, and gloves then load up your crew for a weekend road trip! Earlier this week we told you about the Winter X Games in Aspen. That's a cool event for sure. Some estimate well over 100,000 extreme sports fans will be in Aspen over the weekend. If something a little less crowded sounds more appealing, check out either the Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Competition or the Ouray Ice Festival.
On Monday in Breck, teams from around the world, using only hand tools, began work on 20-tom blocks of snow transforming them into incredible sculptures. This weekend those completed works of art will be on display in downtown Breckenridge. The International Snow Sculpture Championships are free and open to the public.
Meanwhile, over in Ouray, the little mountain town becomes the ice climbing capital of the world as climbers gather to celebrate the sport. The Ouray Ice Festival taking place at the Ouray Ice Park is where hundreds of spectators are excepted to gather to watch the world’s best ice and mixed talent climb their way to a championship.
