Today, Junction Celebrates Arbor Day
I've worked in several markets in my nearly 30 years of radio. I've not worked in a market that takes Arbor Day as serious as we do here. The 16th annual Southwest Arbor Fest is today in Lincoln Park, 12th & Gunnison.
The Grand Junction Forestry Board and The City of Grand Junction are throwing this party. It's all about trees. This year, the Forestry division decided to go with a "quality over quantity" approach. Instead of handing out seedlings, they're decided to implement an "Adopt A Tree" like program. Trees that will be given away will be in 15 gallon pots. These 4-6ft tall trees will help introduce some varieties that are less common here in the valley.
It's on until 5 pm today. And there's beer! The beer tasting admission fee is $20. It's too an all ages event with art & crafts, live music from Junction's favorites Zolopht, Threads, and The Navigators.
If the food's your thing, they've got you hooked up too. Don't miss the 2nd Annual Mac & Cheese Cook-Off or the jalapeno eating competition. Plus, food vendors and much more.
Come out to Lincoln Park and celebrate Arbor Day and the importance of trees. The event is free and again on until 5 pm today.
