The Royal Gorge Bridge opened today, May 1, but with restrictions. Royal Gorge is now open for vehicles, but not pedestrian traffic.

The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, like many other places in Colorado, has been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to 9News, the Royal Gorge Bridge has been closed for weeks, but as of today, it's open.

The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park outside of Canon City is usually only open to pedestrians. Since everyone is practicing social distancing right now, the Royal Gorge is not open to pedestrian traffic. According to 9News here are the restrictions currently in place at the Royal Gorge Bridge:

  • Only vehicles are allowed including:
    • Cars, SUVs, minivans, and motorcycles
    • Only vehicles that hold eight people or less

The Royal Gorge Bridge will only be open to vehicles from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. every day, according to 9News. The cost is $20 per vehicle. Vehicles have not been allowed on the Royal Gorge Bridge since 2013.

According to 9News, the Royal Gorge Bridge is the second highest suspension bridge in the entire world. It's nearly 1,000 feet above the Arkansas River and is the highest suspension bridge in the U.S.
