BLM gives the go-ahead for The Plunge

This is big news for mountain bikers! Getting the Bureau of Land Management to approve the project is a huge step forward for The Palisade Plunge mountain biking trail. The Plunge is a proposed biking trail that will descend from the top of the Grand Mesa down to Palisade. The idea was birthed over 8 years ago as part of Governor Hickenlooper's plan to upgrade 16 trails across the state.

The trail will be truly one-of-a-kind. "There are not many trails like this in the world, that run 30 plus miles and have 6,000 feet of net elevation gain or drop associated with them," said Scott Winans, the president of the board of directors of the Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association.

The trail will draw bikers from across the country and around the world. The impact on the local economy will be significant. Outdoor recreation already pumps about  $3 million into the local economy. Some estimates say the addition of The Plunge could add an additional $2.5 million annually!
