St. Mary’s Needs Blood Donations
St. Mary's Regional Blood Center officials report they are running low on O negative and O positive blood types.
I'll be the first to admit, I don't donate as often as I should. If we're supporting a blood drive or the bloodmobile is at an event, then I try and take time to donate. I've got to do better.
For those of you that are O negative and O positive, St. Mary's has asked us to ask you to help out. They need about 30 to 50 donations of red blood cells daily but this week their daily average is down to less than 10. St. Mary's provides blood to 18 hospitals in the region. As of this week, their red blood cells supply will only last about 6 weeks.
"Only a small percentage of the population that is eligible actually does, so we hope that we see lots of our good donors this month and we will see folks who will donate for the first time.” said the Jennifer Rhamy the director of the St. Mary's Regional Blood Bank. "It's a wonderful way to give back to the community." It's also a fantastic New Year's resolution!
It's worth the effort. Each donation can help save three lives. If you would like to help just give them a call (970) 298-2555 or stop by.
