Rockslide Closes Interstate 70 in Both Directions [UPDATE]
Interstate 70 has been closed in both directions due to a rock slide early Thursday morning.
[UPDATE 5:30 p.m.] Eastbound and Westbound lanes of I-70 are now open to traffic following the clean-up of a rock slide earlier today. The Colorado Department of Transportation removed rock and debris from the roadway and reopened the Interstate at approximately 4:20 p.m.
With more rain in the forecast, the possibility of additional slides still exist. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling through the affected area.
--------------------------------------------------
The closure affects the highway from mile marker 116 to mile marker 133. That essentially means Glenwood Canyon to Dotsero. The road was closed just after 8:00 a.m. today.
The Colorado Department of Transportation suggests an alternate route of Highway 13 north of Rifle to US 40 Highway 131, to I-70 at Wolcott.
Clean up is underway, but there's not been an estimate given for when the highway will reopen.
