RED Were Once Caught Flashing by Police Helicopter
'Off the Record' is a video series where we ask artists questions about anything with one exception: No questions about music. This is your chance to peer behind the music and into the daily lives these artists lead outside of their profession. Topics range from good eats (last meals, ice cream) to mischief (dumbest thing done in the name of fun, getting sent to the principal's office) to getting real (biggest fear, worst injury).
This Off the Record episode features hard rockers RED, who have a bit of a wild history as you'll soon learn. They're not impervious to some true rock 'n' roll antics and, get this, they were once spotted flashing people at the beach by a police helicopter. Here's the bigger surprise — that's not even the story of how one of the band's member was arrested!
It starts off with some lighthearted, fairly innocent grade school fun and it involves a trip to the principal's office. After watching a movie and learning what the middle finger was, they flipped off a line of school buses, completely oblivious to what the gesture represented. That story reminded singer Michael Barnes of the time they flashed the beach from a boat during a bachelor party weekend leading up to bassist Randy Armstrong's marriage. "It started with the butts then it started to be the other way around..."
We'll let them tell you the whole story. Watch the video at the top for that in addition to RED revealing their biggest fear and an injury that led to a dent in Barnes' head.
The Evening Hate, the new EP from RED, is out now and can be purchased here. Catch the band on their North American tour as special guests of In Flames at the dates listed at the bottom of the page.
