Here we are in the home stretch of a very fast-moving 2019. With just a couple of weeks until Christmas, soon we will be flipping over the calendar and kicking off a whole new year.

January 1, 2020, will mean a price increase at the Colorado National Monument. It's the first increase since 2017 and it may take a little of the sting away to know that for a few extra bucks at the gate, the monument will be putting the extra admission directly into improvements at Liberty Cap Trail and to the Upper Monument Canyon Trail.

It's a modest 5 dollar increase. Private vehicles will now cost $25, $20 if you are on a motorcycle, $15 if you are hiking on foot. This means the annual pass will also go up. That will cost you $45 but if you buy it before the end of this month you'll pay the 2019 rate. This would also make a great stocking stuffer for the outdoors person on your list.

This rate increase was mandated by the interior department in 2018 and was then pushed back due to the fact there was a rate increase in 2017 as well. Rather than up the price during back-to-back years, this was pushed back until 2020. So heads up, here it comes.
