Palisade city officials give the go-ahead for a second retail pot shop.

Among the wineries and orchards, there will soon be Palisade's newest marijuana shop. The Happy Camper Cannabis Company received their rezoning request approval during Tuesday nights planning meeting. The company's not quite ready to rock just yet. They must obtain a conditional-use permit. Those issues will be discussed during the April 2ed meeting of Palisade's Planning Commission. Final approval will hopefully be "happy" news for the "campers" at the April 10th public meeting.

The store will be inside a remolded 2,200-square-foot building sitting off of North River Road. The location is near the new Palisade Basecamp RV Resort. The names of the two businesses play off of one another but are not affiliated. Trustee Dave Edwards said he likes the store's location because it helps keep marijuana shops from all being concentrated in town.

With every new dispensary opening closer to town the question is repeated, "When will the city of Grand Junction get in the game"? Why let tax revenue go to other local communities? The clock is ticking. In a few years, the "boom" days will be over and the opportunity will have slipped by. Grand Junction might as well get in the game. More and more local communities certainly are.
