More Colorado Towns Cancel Fireworks Displays
Some of the states biggest 4th of July displays are not happening
Towns across Colorado are fizzling out on the 4th. A few on the list are some of the biggest in the state. Just days ago I shared a list of "Colorado's Top 5 4th of July Celebrations." The city celebrations are on but the without their famed pyrotechnics.
- Aspen
- Breckenridge
- Buena Vista
- Cañon City
- Durango
- Fruita
- Georgetown
- Glenwood Springs
- Kiowa
- Manitou Springs
- Ouray
- Pagosa Springs
- Silverton
- Steamboat Springs
- Telluride
- Woodland Park
The drought is to blame. The heat, low humidity, and fire danger are why this 4th will pack considerably less punch. With most of Colorado under some type of burn ban and Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, the concept of exploding fireballs is unsettling for some.
A recent trend that's gaining traction is the laser light option. Glenwood Springs is doing a laser show. So is Steamboat Springs. Aspen is one-upping the laser light show with a drone light show. I'm not sure how these shows will resonate with the crowds attending. In drier parts of the country will fireworks be phased out entirely? Will a 4th of July laser light show be the new "normal?" I hope not.
