I never expected to see a snake of this size in the Grand Valley. After doing some research, I found out that this snake is the largest in the world.

This snake is over 40 feet long and weighs 2,500 pounds. The snake was named Titanboa because it looked like a boa but acted like an anaconda. A replica is currently a part of a temporary exhibition "Titanboa: Monster Snake". This traveling exhibit is at the Dinosaur Journey Museum in Fruita.

Titanoboa was alive about 60 million years ago in a tropical rain forest. The snake's vertebrae and skull were discovered in Columbia. The fossils were in a coal mine along with with giant turtles, crocodiles and early banana plants. Titanboa is an undiscovered species, making this a phenomenal find.

The snake replica is on display now until August 5th. The Dinosaur Journey Museum is open 7 days a week, from 9 am to 5 pm. Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for children. Seems like a perfect summer adventure to slither to.
