Does your daily commute involve heading into Grand Junction from Orchard Mesa? As you've no doubt noticed, construction is underway on the northbound lanes coming over the bridge. How bad are the delays?

With everything going on in the world, how about a little good news? The delays aren't that bad.

The northbound lane on Highway 50 is down to just one lane, the left lane, starting about a quarter-mile from the bridge. Traffic is reduced to 35 MPH. Judging by the looks of things, construction will continue for at least a little while longer.

During my return to the studio today, sometime around 2:30 this afternoon, I made my way through this construction area. Start to finish, driving through the construction zone only took about six minutes. That's not too bad. The total construction area appears to be roughly a quarter-mile in length.

If you're thinking about cutting down to Unaweep to avoid the mess, you might want to reconsider. A number of people had that same idea. Judging from what I saw, nobody really gained anything by trying to circumvent the construction zone.

When driving out to Orchard Mesa, I would swear there was a flagger at the start of the construction. On the trip from Orchard Mesa back into town, though, I didn't see one. Traffic observed the stoplight at Highway 50 and Unaweep.

Again, the delay wasn't that bad. Nevertheless, if you are heading into Grand Junction from Orchard Mesa anytime over the next few days, you will have to account for a few extra minutes of travel time.
