Meet Eli Odle, Colorado's youngest sheriff's deputy.

Five-year-old Eli is from Hotchkiss and was sworn in recently as a Junior Deputy by Delta County Sheriff Mark Taylor. Eli is representing Ms. Anna Shaklee's kindergarten class at Hotchkiss K-8.

According to the Delta County Sheriff's Office, Eli promised to keep his room clean, brush his teeth, and be nice to his teachers and classmates. Eli and his parents, Eva and John Odle got a tour of the sheriff's office as part of the honor, as Eli was sworn in as a Junior Deputy.

Ms. Shaklee commented on Facebook "all he ever talks about is becoming a police officer," and called Eli a "pretty amazing little boy," and thanked the sheriff for making the boy's "dream come true."

Who knows, maybe Eli will, in fact, one day serve the people of Delta County as a deputy sheriff. Maybe Eli will even be the sheriff one day. From the looks of the picture, Eli looks mighty comfortable behind the sheriff's desk.

This isn't the first time we have witnessed the Delta County Sheriff's Office interacting positively with the county's young people. People really seem to appreciate the positive influence of the law enforcement agency.

Mary Kessler commented on Facebook "Delta officers are wonderful. Nice to see how they get the kids involved to know they are good guys."

Another Facebooker Lionel Atwill said "Big hat, big heart. Way to go Sheriff."

I would echo these comments with handclaps and a pat on the pack for the Delta County Sheriff's Office.
