Built in 1892 and tucked away in the mountains of Northwest Gunnison County is the most photographed mill in America.

The Crystal Mill was a powerhouse for local silver mines. With its log-and-frame structure, the mill sat on top of a rocky ledge on the Crystal River.

This powerhouse helped the mines and the town of Crystal survive the silver price crash during the Panic of 1893.

The mill did end up shutting down, along with the mines, in 1917.

In 1954, the property was acquired by Treasure Mountain Ranch Inc. acquired the property, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

On account of its scenic setting, the Crystal Mill remains one of the most photographed historic structures in the state, according to the Colorado Encyclopedia.
