Gateway Car Museum, Worth The Drive
It's just over an hour drive to Gateway. The Unaweep Tabeguache Scenic Roadway makes the trip, even more fun.
Once you get there, The Gateway Colorado Automobile Museum is about all there is. A general store and that's about it.
The museum tells the story of American automotive history and innovation. The place is of considerable size too, at just over 30,000 square foot. There's plenty to see with over 50 cars on display. What was cool too is that racing is part of the show as is motorcycles.
Also told is the story of its founder, John S. Hendricks. He was the mastermind behind Discovery Communications, a leading global media, and entertainment company. Mr. Hendricks created the Discovery Channel in 1982 as the first cable network in the US designed to provide documentary programming enabling people to explore the world from the comfort of their couch.
Take a few minutes and flip through a few of these shots. Then load up the family and head out. Plan ahead, the museum is only open Wednesday-Sunday from 10 am-3pm.
