Fruita LDS Church Catches Fire

A church in Fruita, Colorado caught fire early this morning (Monday, April 26th.)

The church, a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also known as a Mormon church, caught fire in the early hours of Monday morning where fire crews were dispatched to fight the fire around 3:30 a.m.

As of 9:10 a.m. this morning, it was reported that crews from the Lower Valley Fire Protection District were joined by the Grand Junction Fire Department and were still actively fighting the fire.

According to reports, the fire caused damage to the church that was so extensive that the building's roof collapsed because of the blaze.

It was after the building's roof collapsed that firefighters from both departments were able to enter the church and begin their attempts to put out the fire that was destroying the inside of the structure.

Luckily, because the fire occurred so early in the morning, no one was inside of the church at the time of the fire and therefore there were no injuries or casualties by the time that the two fire departments showed up to extinguish the flames.

The church is located in Fruita near the intersection of Maple Street and East Ottley Avenue, which caused both Maple and Ottley to close this morning as crews worked to put out the fire.

Little is known as far as what caused the fire at this point in time, but it is currently being investigated by authorities.
