Fireworks Are Not Returning To These Mountain Towns
Despite the drought's end, fireworks won't be returning to some Colorado towns.
The little mountain town of Manitou Springs isn’t having a 4th of July fireworks display for the second year in a row. That's despite the record-setting snowpack and spring moisture that finally ended the Colorado drought. The local fire chief said the show isn’t worth the risk of a fire.
It's the same story in Breckenridge. Frisco too canceled their fireworks display even though it happens over Dillon Reservoir. Other Colorado towns have voted against 4th of July fireworks again this year including Aspen, Canon City, Georgetown, and Glenwood Springs.
Some of Colorado’s biggest wildfires have all happened in the last 20 years. Last year's Spring Creek and 416 fires were among the worst in history. However, in the last five years, only 21 fires were caused by fireworks. That's according to the National Fire Incident Reporting System.
