The Mesa County Sheriff and Bureau of Land Management have lifted the local fire restrictions.

The fire ban restriction will officially be lifted at midnight Thursday, August 3rd. According to the Mesa County Fire Chief’s Association, the recent rainfall and a cooler weather in the forecast were the main reasons for lifting the ban.

That's good news. However, authorities are encouraging the public to use caution with any outdoor activities that could ignight a wildfire. Be extra vigilant when doing any kind of buring especailly in brushy or forested areas.

A reminder that this ban being lifted effects only Mesa County. Other surrounding counties may still have their bans in effect. The only way to know for sure is to contact them directly. That way you to know for sure before building a campfire or grilling outdoors. You can visit the State Office of Emergency Management website for more information by clicking HERE.

A reminder too, fireworks are never permitted on federal land. Wood fires are never permitted anywhere on the Colorado National Monument.
