Elderly Colorado Man Dies Following Attack + Robbery
An elderly Colorado man has unfortunately passed away after being attacked and robbed in Longmont, Colorado.
The man, who has not been identified, was riding his bike near the Longmont Recreational Center at night on Thursday, November 5th when three men shoved him off of his bike and stole some of his belongings.
The men allegedly stole his credit card, cell phone, and bicycle. The man's credit card was allegedly used by the assailants and his cell phone was found abandoned. However, it's possible that the attackers still have the man's green Bridgestone bike, as witnesses have reported seeing a man riding it around town.
The man was admitted to the hospital following the attack where he was treated for roughly a week and a half, but unfortunately passed away as a result of his injuries this past Monday, November 16th.
Longmont is generally a pretty safe town, with a property crime rate of 35.4%, lower than the Colorado average of 39.7%, and a violent crime rate of 19.1%, which is also lower than the Colorado average of 21.6%. However, the town did not land on the list of the 20 safest cities in Colorado in 2020.
Authorities are asking Northern Colorado residents to be on the lookout for the victim's green Bridgestone bike and were, fortunately, able to obtain security camera footage from nearby stores of the three assailants, who are still at large.
It's unfortunate that violent crimes like this are happening in our great state, especially considering the age of the victim, but hopefully, the assailants will be caught and justice will be served.
